West Midlands Archery Society
WMAS Senior Intercounties
Sunday 5th October 2025

After several hours of storms battering the UK and several moments leaving all questioning “will this go ahead”?, 16 archers from Warwickshire joined archers representing Shropshire, Staffordshire and Worcestershire (sadly Herefordshire were unable to attend) to decide which county would be regional champions for 2025.

The round for the event was the newly introduced AGB 900 round, consisting of 30 arrows each at 70m, 60m and 50m on a 122cm target face.
With this round requiring slightly fewer arrows to complete a later start time of 9.30 was afforded. Despite this the usual comical mutterings of “not a morning person”, “regretting life choices” and other such good hearted witticisms could be heard during the set up preceding play.

Equipment inspections, a quick team photo and a rousing speech from the team manager and then we were off!

County team WMAS Intercounties 2025

The day proceeded smoothly, with relatively mild weather throughout. The morning was a challenge for many, as the field of play was east facing, meaning archers were facing into the sun for a large portion of the morning. Add to this the remains of the storm left us with a relatively mild yet unpredictable breeze which made the day a little more demanding than it first appeared.

Several distance changes, a short lunch break and barely any delaying events (extreme weather, equipment failures ect) and shooting was complete around mid afternoon! A brief pack up period and everyone retired to the events tent attached to the cricket club bar for awards.

The favorites for the day were Shroposhire, who had been able to field several GB archers amongst their squad, but with most teams have at least 1 gap in their rosters it was realistically anyone’s to take.

The final winners for each team were as follows

  • Longbow team – Worcestershire
  • Barebow team – Staffordshire
  • Compound team – Worcestershire
  • Recurve team – Warwickshire!!!!!
  • Overall team – Worcestershire
