West Midlands Archery Society and County of Worcester Archery Association
Open Junior Championships Inc WMAS Junior Intercounties
Saturday 13th September 2025

The last outdoor team tournament took place on Saturday 13th September at Redhill Archery club. This was an open competition that included the intercounties team event for WMAS. Taking part were 5 counties. Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Worcester.

The day saw 8 juniors from CWAA clubs enter. The clubs represented were Beacon Archers, Bowman of Alcester, Meriden AC, and Stratford Archers. With age categories from U12s all the way to U18s. What was great was that some of the juniors had met previously at the county junior training sessions that had been run before the summer holidays.

The day started early with the field opening at 8.30am so most of our team were up and on the road by 7.30am. The day was going to be a long one shooting Bristol rounds. This is more than some of the juniors had shot before.

Redhill did a great job with bacon and sausage sandwiches available on arrival and the option to order pizzas for lunch! Senior team manager Russell was also on hand on the day to assist should any issues arise.

The weather held for most of the day with a quick halt to the shooting mid morning when there was an unexpected downpour and it was lovely to know that thanks to some parents who had borrowed an awning for the day the team were all able to shelter together. A big thanks to Stratford Archers for lending the team a place to keep dry.

After the pause the morning continued without further ado. Then it was lunch time. Again most of our archers went to the awning again and enjoyed lunch together, I am told the pizzas were amazing!
With the targets moved the afternoons shooting continued with some impressive scores coming in.

The shooting ended around 4pm and it was time to pack up and await the results. I am pleased to say that our juniors came away with 3rd place in the overall teams and not only that individually they achieved

Philip Mace RJM Bristol 3 (od) 2nd
Elizabeth Gillett – Smith RJW Bristol 4 6th
Grace Smith RJW Bristol 5 2nd
Caitlin Smart RJW Bristol 5 3rd
Rebecca Gillett – Smith RJW Bristol 5 4th
Alex Beach CJM Bristol 1 1st
Lavinia Horton BJW Bristol 2 1st
Adriana Jones BJW Bristol 3 1st New County Record

There were some lovely comments made about our team and the way they conducted themselves, we should all be very proud of how they represented the county.
